HEALTH AND WELLNESS

At Parkside, the health and wellness of our students is a top priority.

We are proud to have a full-time nurse on staff, ensuring that medical support is always available for our students. Our dedicated nurse's office is equipped to handle a variety of health and wellness needs, providing a safe and supportive environment for our students. For added peace of mind, our nurse also accompanies students on trips to provide necessary health support outside the school.

In addition to on-site medical care, we integrate health awareness into our curriculum. Students learn about essential topics such as healthy eating and exercise, and we offer resources to families to support open communication to foster a holistic approach to health and wellness that extends beyond the classroom.

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES

We believe in nurturing each student’s unique passions and strengths through extracurricular clubs and activities.

Our extracurricular programs are designed to provide enriching experiences that complement our academic curriculum and foster personal growth. Students can join the Parkside Singers, where they explore their love for music, develop their vocal skills, and perform in various school events. For those with a flair for writing and journalism, the Newspaper Club offers a creative outlet to report on school happenings and share stories. The Chess Club provides an engaging environment for students to sharpen their strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities while enjoying friendly competition.

Based on their individual strengths and interests, students are recommended by their teachers and therapists for these clubs in order to discover new interests and build confidence.

AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM

Our teachers and therapists offer a variety of after school programming throughout the academic school year.

After school opportunities range from sports activities, exploring technology, cooking, tae kwon do, and more. After school club sessions are held in fall, winter, spring, and summer, and vary by season. For questions, please contact our After-School Program Coordinator, Jakiem Swinger.

SUMMER CAMP

Summer Camp is an Extension of our Academic Program

Each summer, we offer a six-week program in all of the grades we serve during the school year. We typically enroll between 60 and 65 children, most of them from our school year program. Participation in Summer Camp helps children retain and deepen their learning, and it provides students with an important sense of consistency, which can help to ease the strain of the transitions inherent in the passing school years.

The summer program includes a classroom component, which is an extension of the academic program developed by each teacher during the school year. The atmosphere of the classrooms is more relaxed, though, and we maximize our local resources with many group trips and plenty of time outdoors. We also continue all of our special offerings and related support services over the summer months.
