6:30pm, Parent Talk - Woodin Math

  • The Parkside School 48 West 74th Street New York, NY, 10023 United States (map)

This session was previously scheduled in November, but had to be cancelled. We look forward to seeing you in January!

During this workshop, we will delve into the transformative world of "Woodin Math" at Parkside. Approximately five years ago, Parkside embarked on a journey to pilot Christopher Woodin's innovative "Woodin Math" number system. This system was designed to enhance primary numeracy and instill students with a profound, conceptual grasp of mathematics across diverse contexts, all in alignment with Common Core Standards.

Our primary objective is to equip our students with a robust and lasting "number sense." As Christopher Woodin eloquently puts it, "number sense is developed by establishing a robust, durable understanding of quantities so that their values may be compared." In practice, we've witnessed this philosophy take root, fostering a deep comprehension of numbers across various mathematical operations through a "whole to part" model.

Developed by Christopher Woodin at the Landmark School in Massachusetts, this methodology is now widely embraced by school systems both nationally and internationally. However, its effectiveness truly shines with a comprehensive introduction to the methodology and its teaching language.

At this presentation, we'll showcase a plethora of activities, materials, and engaging games that our students actively participate in to achieve numeracy. Additionally, we'll provide invaluable insights and tips for supporting your child's mathematical journey at home.

Our previous Constable Literacy parent talk garnered an incredible turnout, and we're hoping for an equally robust turnout  this time!
