Paula Resnick (P'12) and Nicky Ellis (P'13) invite Parkside Alumni Parents to a cocktail party with Albina Miller, Leslie Thorne, and special guests from Beyond Akeela.
The evening will be an opportunity to connect with fellow alumni parents, reconnect with the school, and discuss the myriad options our children have as they plan for their post-secondary lives. Debbie Sasson PsyD and Kevin Trimble will lead a brief, informal discussion on helping teens expand their horizons, develop self-advocacy, and foster lifelong friendships. They will be available to answer questions during the party.

ABOUT BEYOND AKEELA
Beyond Akeela is a three week summer program with an intentional focus on helping teens transition into their post-secondary lives. With a home base at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, participants are part of a community in which they practice independent living skills, experience adventure, and thrive socially. Beyond Akeela expands horizons, develops self-advocacy, and creates friendships that last a lifetime.
Debbie Sasson, PsyD
Along with her husband, Eric, Debbie has been running Camp Akeela in Vermont for the past 10 summers. There, they work with “quirky” kids who are interested in a traditional summer camp experience but who benefit from some social support and more structure. Debbie grew up going to camp in Maryland, where she made some of her best friends. She graduated with her Bachelor's and Master’s Degrees from the University of Rochester and also earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Yeshiva University.
Kevin Trimble
Kevin is the director of Beyond Akeela, a program for teens who have completed 11th and 12th grades (or a post-graduate year). Teens experience the heart of camp – friendship and fun – while also working on developing life skills like cooking, doing laundry and budget planning. They also visit colleges, practice job applications and engage in meaningful community service. At the end of their time together, they embark on a fun trip where they put some of their new skills to practical use! Kevin grew up in Northern California, where he discovered his love of basketball. He went on to graduate from Wake Forest University with a Bachelor's and Master’s degree in Accountancy. Kevin has been working full-time with the Akeela team since 2013.
